Laboratory of Anemias
The workplace is incorporated in the Complement of laboratories IHBT. It continuously upholds independent and impartial assessment of professional competence of the Complement of laboratories according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 15189, whose application is verified by the Czech Accreditation Institute. Examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the appendix of the Accreditation Certificate in the current version, which is available on the website IHBT.
The Anemia Laboratory is engaged in the diagnosis of congenital corpuscular anemias (erythrocyte membrane disorders, red blood cell enzyme disorders, hemoglobinopathies) and some acquired disorders of the red blood series (myelodysplastic neoplasia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, congenital dyserythropoetic anemia type 2).
Within the framework of hemoglobinopathy diagnostics, the laboratory uses a device with capillary electrophoresis method, which significantly increases sensitivity and improves the diagnosis of abnormal hemoglobins and thalassemias. At present, the laboratory is working on the introduction of ektacytometry method for the diagnosis of corpuscular hemolytic anemias, which is being prepared for routine diagnosis of congenital erythrocyte membrane disorders.
The laboratory collaborates with the Genomics department IHBT in the diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies, with the Laboratory of the Institute of Biology at Palacký University in Olomouc in the detection of some rare enzymatic disorders, and with the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at University Hospital in Prague – Motol in laboratory examination of samples from pediatric patients.
