Laboratory of Anemias
The workplace is integrated into the ÚHKT Laboratory Complement. It continuously upholds an independent and impartial assessment of the professional competence of the Laboratory Complement according to the ČSN EN ISO 15189 standard, whose application is verified by the Czech Institute for Accreditation. The examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the Annex to the Accreditation Certificate in its current version, which is available on the website of ÚHKT.
The Anemia Laboratory is engaged in the diagnosis of congenital corpuscular anemias (erythrocyte membrane disorders, red blood cell enzyme disorders, hemoglobinopathies) and certain acquired disorders of the red blood cell line (myelodysplastic neoplasia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type 2).
Within the framework of hemoglobinopathy diagnostics, the laboratory uses a capillary electrophoresis method device, which significantly increases the sensitivity and improves the accuracy of diagnosis of abnormal hemoglobins and thalassemias. Currently, the laboratory is working on implementing the ektacytometry method for the diagnosis of corpuscular hemolytic anemias, which is being prepared for routine diagnostics of congenital erythrocyte membrane disorders.
The laboratory cooperates with the Genomics Department of ÚHKT in the diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies, with the laboratory of the Institute of Biology at Palacký University in Olomouc in the detection of certain rare enzymopatias, and with the Clinic of Pediatric Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at the University Hospital in Prague – Motol in laboratory examination of samples from pediatric patients.
