Basic conditions for donation
Conditions for donating whole blood
- age 18–65 years, first-time donors only up to 60 years
- minimum weight 50 kg
- donation intervals:
women 1x every 4 months (3x per year)
men 1x every 3 months (4x per year)
(minimum interval is 10 weeks) - restrictions on blood donation when traveling
Temporary restrictions on blood donation
- during menstruation, 3 days before and 3 days after its end
- when using any medications including over-the-counter ones (except hormonal contraception and vitamins)
- 7–10 days after taking NSAIDs (Brufen, Ibuprofen, Aulin, Diclofenac, Surgam) and
medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpyrin, Aspirin, Anopyrin),
medications containing paracetamol are not a problem (Paralen, Panadol, etc.) - 1 week after healing of cold sore
- 14 days after a minor infection (cold, cough, etc.)
- 1 month after completing antibiotics
- 1 month after diarrheal illness
- 1 month after a tick bite
- 4 months after surgery
- 4 months after endoscopic examination
- 4 months after blood transfusion
- 4 months after tattoo, piercing
- 6 months after recovery from Lyme disease
- 9 months after childbirth, 6 months after stopping breastfeeding
- 1 year from recovery from hepatitis type A, mononucleosis
- for people with high blood pressure – can donate blood if they take only one medication
and have controlled blood pressure - for severe allergy sufferers – can donate blood in mild form of illness,
without acute symptoms and without treatment - in case of vaccination and other unclear situations after consultation with our doctor
- 1 month after staying outside Europe
- 1 month after staying in European countries with occurrence of West Nile fever
(information in the Registry) - 6 months after staying in malarial areas
- 1 year after taking antimalarial drugs
Permanent exclusion from blood donation
- HIV positive and all those in permanent contact with them
- people who have had hepatitis type B and C, and all those in permanent contact with them
- drug use
- alcoholism
- stay during 1980–1996 longer than 12 months in Great Britain and France
- cancer
- diabetes
- heart disease
- after transplantation
- blood disease
- kidney disease
- chronic gastrointestinal disease
- bronchial asthma
- autoimmune disease
- epilepsy
- multiple sclerosis
- glaucoma and retinal inflammation
Foreign blood donor
- stay in the Czech Republic longer than 1 year
- insurance with a Czech health insurance company
- ability to communicate in Czech
