Intensive care unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of ÚHKT provides comprehensive care for patients with hematopoietic diseases whose condition requires intensive medicine methods including support of organ functions (e.g., artificial lung ventilation, dialysis).

The ICU ward hospitalize both patients undergoing hematological treatment at ÚHKT and in whom a worsening of general condition has occurred due to a complication (most often a serious infection), and patients in a severe clinical condition caused by a hitherto undiagnosed hematopoietic disease. We therefore provide hematological, intensive care and diagnostic services. Also hospitalized here are patients who receive treatment requiring patient status monitoring due to high risk of complication development or when administering the latest experimental therapies not only in routine practice but also within clinical trials.

Within the ÚHKT area, you will find us on the 2nd floor of building B (to the left from the elevator). The ward capacity is a maximum of 10 beds and most rooms are single-bed. The recommended list of items for ICU hospitalization can be found here.

Visits are possible throughout the day, but preferably between 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
To enter the ward, respiratory protection and disposable gown are required – we recommend bringing your own respirator. If necessary, access to the ward is restricted and during respiratory infection periods, visits may be prohibited. In individual cases, after agreement with the attending physician, visiting hours can be extended.

PROVIDING INFORMATION
We provide information about patients' condition to close persons not only in person, but also by telephone. The patient must always consent to the providing of information to the inquiring person – that is, such person must be listed in the patient's informed consent. In case of a telephone conversation, the identity of the inquirer will be verified by a password that the patient determined when signing the consent. Telephone consultations are reserved from 11 AM to 3 PM.
