Blood Stem Cell Donation
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donors
Hematopoietic stem cells are cells used to perform hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This method is used in the treatment of life-threatening hematological diseases (leukemia, lymphomas, certain types of anemia), immune disorders, and metabolic disorders. Donated hematopoietic stem cells are capable of restoring hematopoietic and immune functions in the recipient. Donors may donate cells for a related or unrelated recipient, and are referred to accordingly as a related or unrelated hematopoietic stem cell donor.
A selected suitable unrelated donor is referred from the Czech Stem Cell Donor Registry (CSCR) to our facility for an initial examination to assess eligibility for growth factor mobilization and stem cell collection. Conditions for donation for unrelated donors (click IKEM)
A selected suitable related donor is referred from the donor outpatient clinic of the HU (link to the HU donor outpatient clinic ÚHKT – Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion) to our facility for an initial examination to assess eligibility for stem cell collection.
Stem cell collection can be performed in two ways:
A) Peripheral blood stem cell collection – more at Information on collection
B) Bone marrow collection – more at Information on collection
