Donation Terms
Basic conditions for donation
- age 18–65 years (1st donation is suitable up to 60 years)
- valid identity card, for foreigners living in the CR (long-term stay in the CR, valid health insurance, ability to communicate in Czech language)
- minimum weight 50 kg
- health fitness for donation (see temporary and permanent restrictions in donation below)
- restrictions on donation when traveling within Europe
Temporary restrictions on donation
- during menstruation, 3 days before and 3 days after its termination
- when taking medication including over-the-counter drugs (except hormonal contraception and vitamins)
- 7–10 days after taking NSAIDs (Brufen, Ibuprofen, Aulin, Diclofenac, Surgam) and
drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpyrin, Aspirin, Anopyrin),
drugs containing paracetamol are acceptable (Paralen, Panadol etc.) - 1 week after herpes healing
- 14 days after a minor infection (runny nose, cough etc.)
- 1 month after finishing antibiotics
- 1 month after diarrheal illness
- 1 month after a tick bite
- 4 months after surgery
- 4 months after endoscopic examination
- 4 months after blood transfusion
- 4 months after tattoo, piercing
- 6 months after recovery from Lyme disease
- 9 months after childbirth, 6 months after stopping breastfeeding
- 1 year from recovery from type A hepatitis, mononucleosis
- for people with high blood pressure – they can donate blood if they take only one medication
and have controlled blood pressure - for severe allergy sufferers – they can donate blood in a milder form of illness,
without acute symptoms and without treatment - in case of vaccination and other unclear situations after consultation with our doctor
- 1 month after stay outside Europe
- 1 month after stay in European countries with occurrence of West Nile fever
(information in the Registry) - 6 months after stay in malarial areas
- 1 year after taking antimalarial drugs
Permanent exclusion from donation
- HIV positive and everyone who is in permanent contact with them
- people who have had type B and C hepatitis, and everyone who is in permanent contact with them
- drug use
- alcoholism
- stay in the years 1980–1996 longer than 12 months in Great Britain and in France
- malignant disease
- diabetes
- heart disease
- after transplantation
- blood disease
- kidney disease
- chronic gastrointestinal disease
- bronchial asthma
- autoimmune disease
- epilepsy
- multiple sclerosis
- glaucoma and retinal inflammation
Foreign donor
- stay in the Czech Republic longer than 1 year
- insurance with a Czech health insurance company
- ability to communicate in Czech
