Department of Immunohematology
The workplace is incorporated into the Complement of laboratories IHBT. It continuously upholds independent and impartial assessment of professional competence of the Complement of laboratories according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 15189, whose application is verified by the Czech Accreditation Institute. Examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the annex to the Accreditation Certificate in the current version, which is available on the website IHBT.
The work of the department is divided into two parts:
- routine part – immunohematology department with local scope
- specialized part with national and international scope – NRL for immunohematology
The Immunohematology Department performs basic immunohematological examination of blood donors from the local transfusion department.
Routine pretransfusion examination is provided for patients of the clinical department IHBT, or for patients of pediatric hematology at FN Motol.
In patients with developed antibodies, their specificity is determined, red blood cells and possibly platelets are typed to ensure optimal blood product for these sensitized individuals.
Red blood cell chimerism is monitored after bone marrow transplantation, particularly with regard to early detection of changes in the recipient's blood type to the donor's blood type – again to ensure the correct blood product for these patients.
The department also detects and specifies platelet and leukocyte antibodies in patients in whom the cause of low count of these elements is being investigated.
As part of TRALI prevention, HLA antibody screening is performed in blood donors at BU IHBT. Furthermore, serological tests for detection of antibodies associated with HIT type II (anti-heparin/PF4) are performed.
NRL for immunohematology performs the most demanding immunohematological examinations in solving complex cases of antibodies and antigens, submitted to the laboratory from the entire Czech Republic and Slovakia, and participates in the preparation and supervision of external quality control cycles.
The Immunohematology Department is involved in research projects (Research Intent IHBT). Its employees also participate in undergraduate education in the field of immunohematology (within ÚKEH) and postgraduate education (ILF, NCONZO) and at the same time increase their own qualifications by participating in training events.
Employees are bound by confidentiality according to the Act on health services, 372/2011 Coll.
Trust and high data security is one of the basic priorities within the activities of the Complement of laboratories IHBT. Established procedures are conducted in accordance with the Law on Personal Data Processing 110/2019 Coll., and Regulation of the European Parliament and Council of the EU 2016/679, from April 27, 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/ES.
