Donor Clinic

Already upon admission of the patient to hospital wards or at the first contact in the outpatient clinic, data about the patient's relatives (siblings, parents, children) are collected as part of the family history. After approval of the indication for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the treating physician informs these relatives through the patient to contact the donor clinic of UHKT, where they will arrange a date for a visit and examination.

After booking with the nurse at the donor clinic, the family member will come for examination (so-called Round I), during which basic initial blood samples will be taken including a sample for HLA typing, the donor will fill in Anamnestic Questionnaire, a written Donor Information will be discussed and an Informed Consent for blood collection will be signed. After assessment of the sample results by the donor clinic physician, a potential relative donor may be excluded from donation immediately if there are obvious contraindications.

Otherwise, the HLA typing results are awaited and if the potential donor is selected as suitable, they are invited for another outpatient visit (Round II), during which, in addition to blood samples, further examinations will be performed, such as ECG or X-ray examination and a consultation with the donor clinic physician will take place. It will also be assessed whether the donor is capable of undergoing stimulation and the actual collection of hematopoietic cells. 

If everything is in order and the donor is definitively selected for donation to their relative, a control round of blood samples will take place and the donor will then be transferred to the Apheresis Department, where the collection will take place.
