Morphological-cytochemical laboratory

The workplace is included in the Complement of laboratories IHBT. It continuously maintains independent and impartial assessment of the professional competence of the Complement of laboratories according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 15189, whose application is verified by the Czech Institute for Accreditation. Examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the attachment to the Accreditation Certificate in the current version, which is available on the website IHBT.

The laboratory performs routine examinations for patients of the outpatient clinic and inpatient departments of IHBT including complete blood count with instrumental and manual differential of leukocytes, cytologically evaluates peripheral blood smears, bone marrow aspirate, further quantitatively and cytologically evaluates body fluids (cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid, ascites, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid) and determines erythrocyte sedimentation rate. A total of twelve cytochemical examinations allows accurate cytological diagnosis of bone marrow aspirate smears. The laboratory, within its competencies, also performs consultative examination of bone marrow aspirates (2nd reading), including in stat mode. It works closely with MUDr. V. Campr from the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University at Motol University Hospital in the field of histological findings consultations and in determining the final diagnosis.

The laboratory is equipped with two complete blood count analyzers (SYSMEX), a slide maker and stainer, and digital morphology instruments. The analyzer measures and evaluates other parameters of the complete blood count than standard analyzers, for example immature platelets, which are important in the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenias. Smears and staining are performed on an automated machine. In routine evaluation of peripheral blood smears, two digital instruments are used which operate on the principle of digital data transfer (photographs of individual cells); blood cell and platelet morphology are also evaluated using images.

Laboratory staff regularly provide postgraduate morphology education as part of pre-examination preparation for doctors, university bioanalysts and laboratory technicians in the field of Hematology and transfusion service and Hematology and transfusion medicine.

Laboratory services are also used by scientists in their projects (measurement of parameters on a complete blood count analyzer, cytological analysis of preparations).

The laboratory successfully meets the conditions of external quality assessment every year; it uses samples from the company SEKK s. r. o., for the complete blood count cycle with analyzer differential, microscopic evaluation of peripheral blood smear, reticulocytes on analyzer, bone marrow smear and peripheral blood smear in photograph. It is one of the ten reference laboratories of SEP (group of expert workplaces) for microscopic analysis of peripheral blood smears within SEKK, s. r. o.

Employees are bound by confidentiality under the Law on Health Services, 372/2011 Coll.

Trust and high data security is one of the basic priorities within the activities of the Complement of laboratories IHBT. Established procedures are conducted in accordance with the Personal Data Processing Act 110/2019 Coll., and Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of the EU 2016/679, of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/ES.
