Laboratory of Viral Infection Prevention

The workplace is integrated into the Complement of laboratories IHBT. It continuously defends an independent and impartial assessment of the professional competence of the Complement of laboratories according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 15189, whose application is verified by the Czech Accreditation Institute. The examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the annex to the Accreditation Certificate in the current version, which is available on the website IHBT.

The Laboratory for the Prevention of Viral Infections routinely performs detection of blood-borne infection markers in daily operations, which are mandatory tests in transfusion preparations. For blood and blood component donors, according to Decree No. 143/2008 Coll., the following tests are currently mandatory:

  • hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg),
  • antibodies against hepatitis B virus core antigen (anti-HBc)
  • antibodies against hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV),
  • HIV core p24 antigen and antibodies against HIV-1/HIV-2 (HIV Ag-Ab),
  • antibodies against the causative agent of syphilis bacterium Treponema pallidum (anti-TP).

In LPVN, blood samples from patients and healthcare workers supplied from the outpatient and inpatient departments of the Clinical Section IHBT are further examined, as well as possibly from external facilities.

Upon request, the laboratory also performs testing for antibodies against hepatitis B virus surface antigen (anti-HBs) or detection of IgG antibodies against human cytomegalovirus (anti-CMV).

Detection of all mentioned markers is performed using the chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) method with an automatic immunochemical analyzer Abbott Architect i2000SR.

Employees are bound by confidentiality pursuant to the Act on Health Services, 372/2011 Coll.
