IHBT regularly undergoes accreditation processes with Czech and foreign auditors. This process helps create an environment of maximum quality and safety and thus achieve maximum results in the care provided.
Joint Commission International (JCI) Quality Certificate
Joint Commission International (JCI) is an independent international organization with fifty years of experience in accrediting healthcare facilities. It evaluates the quality management and safety system of healthcare services according to international standards. These standards establish procedures in the field of patient care. Above all, it is about accessibility of care and its continuity, examination and treatment of patients, respect for their rights, but also about lifelong education of healthcare workers. The standards also set rules for hospital operations and quality management, safety of patients and employees, information protection, staff qualifications and prevention of hospital infections. The international JCI quality certificate is awarded for 3 years, and the healthcare facility must be re-reviewed before the end of the three-year accreditation period.
IHBT received the award from the prestigious accreditation agency in 2007 (as the third Czech facility) and defends it at three-year intervals according to accreditation rules. It most recently defended its JCI accreditation in 2025 (Certificate of Accreditation Award). IHBT is the sole holder of this certification in the Czech Republic.
Quality Certificate of the Joint Accreditation Commission (SAK)
The Joint Accreditation Commission (SAK) carries out accreditation of healthcare facilities in the form of external quality assessment in healthcare, which is directly or indirectly related to patient care. The objective of SAK accreditation is continuous improvement of the quality and safety of healthcare. Quality assessment is carried out by assessing the compliance of processes taking place in the healthcare facility with accreditation standards. Accreditation inspections are conducted by SAK auditors, who are physicians, non-medical healthcare workers and administrators in healthcare, and are carried out according to the so-called Pathfinder methodology – it assesses whether the care of auditor-selected patients is carried out in accordance with the facility's internal regulations, or in accordance with SAK accreditation standards. SAK accreditation is awarded for a period of three years. The last accreditation inspection was successfully carried out at IHBT in 2023 (Certificate of Accreditation Award).
JACIE Certification
The Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT-Europe & EBMT (JACIE) is the only official accreditation body in Europe for the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cell therapy. It promotes high-quality patient care and medical and laboratory practice through professional voluntary certification.
IHBT voluntarily committed itself to JACIE professional standards and, as a center of excellence with its own research activities closely linked to the healthcare provided, obtained the status of a certified transplant center for the second time in 2025 (for the period from April 15, 2025 to April 14, 2029). This fact facilitates participation in international clinical trials, which bring medical research findings closer to clinical practice (Certificate of Accreditation Award).
European federation for immunogenetics (EFI)
European federation for immunogenetics (EFI) is an international professional society that aims to support the development of immunogenetics in medicine and research. It facilitates not only the exchange of information but also contributes to the dissemination of skills and knowledge among professionals in this field (immunogenetics, histocompatibility testing, transplant medicine). On the basis of expert discussion, it issues and regularly updates recommendations for standardization of methods, quality control and professional criteria for accreditation, the implementation of which it assesses within the framework of accreditation inspections.
Czech Institute for Accreditation, public benefit corporation (ČIA o.p.s.)
Czech Institute for Accreditation, public benefit corporation (ČIA o.p.s.), is a National Accreditation Body established by the Czech government, which provides its services in accordance with applicable legislation in all areas of accreditation to both state and private entities. The principle of a unified European accreditation system composed of national accreditation bodies that operate according to uniform rules and accredit according to defined internationally recognized standards is based on the position specified by the EC in the Global Concept of Approach to Testing and Certification.
In accordance with the requirements of international standards and documents, ČIA conducts impartial, objective and independent assessment of competence for:
- Testing and calibration laboratories (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025)
- Medical laboratories (ČSN EN ISO 15189)
Laboratory Accreditations
Complement Laboratory of IHBT
Continuously maintains independent and impartial assessment of professional competence of the Complement Laboratory according to the ČSN EN ISO 15189 standard, the application of which is verified by the Czech Institute for Accreditation. Examination methods within the scope of accreditation are defined by the annex to the Accreditation Certificate.
NRL for DNA Diagnostics
Accredited by the Czech Institute for Accreditation (ČIA o.p.s.) according to the standard ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025 Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories (since 2002).
Transplant Medicine Laboratory
Accredited since 2007 according to professional standards Standards for Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Testing of the international organization European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI)
