IHBT and the Crisis Management Seminar at the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic

Representatives of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) regularly take part in healthcare emergency-preparedness activities organized by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The participation of members of management in expert meetings, training sessions, and exercises is an important part of preparing healthcare facilities for emergencies, crisis situations, and potential failures of critical infrastructure.

Crisis management in healthcare represents a system of measures aimed at ensuring the continuity of healthcare provision even in situations where normal operations are threatened – for example, during large-scale epidemics, cyberattacks, power outages, mass-casualty incidents, or other emergencies. In this area, the Ministry of Health acts as a crisis-management authority and coordinates the preparedness of healthcare facilities across the Czech Republic.

The participation of IHBT experts in the Ministry of Health's activities makes it possible to:

  • share experience between hospitals and specialized centers,
  • practice crisis scenarios and emergency situations,
  • coordinate procedures within the healthcare system,
  • strengthen the safety of patients and staff,
  • maintain readiness to operate under limited conditions.

The Ministry of Health has long supported the crisis preparedness of organizations within its remit, including through earmarked programs and exercises designed to increase the operational capability of healthcare facilities and to verify their ability to respond to crisis situations in practice.

IHBT's involvement in the crisis-preparedness system is therefore not merely a formal obligation, but above all an important step toward ensuring safe and uninterrupted patient care even under extraordinary conditions.
