Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion
The Transfusion Department is engaged in standard full blood collection and thrombocyte and plasma separation through hemapheresis technique.
Donors include many holders of the bronze, silver and golden plaque of Dr. Jánský, as well as donors awarded with the golden cross 2nd and 3rd class for 120 and 80 blood collection sessions.
Blood is processed into transfusion products, primarily for patients of the IHBT – high-quality deleucotized concentrates are produced of erythrocytes, thrombocytes, granulocytes and plasma, which is used for transfusion therapy, as well as for pharmaceutical processing. All erythrocyte and thrombocyte concentrates are deleucotized and exposed to radiation. Furthermore, pathogen inactivation in thrombocytes is performed.
The Transfusion Department closely cooperates with the Apheresis Department in the preparation of thrombocytes through hemapheresis technique and in the provision of extracorporeal photochemotherapy.
