Cell Therapy Department

Administrative and personal data on the department.

Cell Therapy Department is engaged in the collection, cryopreservation and manipulations of PBPC (Peripheral Blood Progenitor Cells). It prepares PBPC grafts for autologous and allogeneic transplantations. The department is responsible for hemopoietic tissue processing, mostly harvested on transfusion department and separators unit as well as grafts processing from other clinics.

It also provides courier serves for graft transportation from abroad and eventually from abroad centers to the domestic transplant centers in collaboration with Czech Bone Marrow Donors (CBMD) registry. The department is leading facility of the project Cord Blood Bank of the Czech Republic and is involved in research projects in the fieldofhemopoietic stem cell manipulation.

In the year of 2004 it was collected 1472 unrelated cord blood donations. 462 of them were large enough for further processing. Altogether there is in the bank 2239 grafts in unrelated part and 14 grafts in related part of the bank. 459 grafts were registered in the CBMD and BMDW registries this year. Actually there is 1523 cord blood grafts registered and available for clinical use.

There were two grafts allocated for patients via CBMD. The first one to transplantation center in Teheran (Iran) and the second one to the Tucson (Arizona, USA).
