Apheretic Department

Administrative and personal data on the department.

Apheresis Department performs donor and therapeutic procedures. Plateletpheresis technique is the most often donor procedure. It enables to prepare leukodepleted platelet concentrates, which are intended for transfusion of thrombocytopenic patients. Platelet concentrates are mixed either with donor plasma or with T-sol(ution), which replaces more than 60 % of plasma in the product. This technique helps to reduce the number of adverse reactions to plasma proteins in patients. Platelet concentrates are irradiated using ionizing irradiation in order to prevent potransfusion GVHD in immunocompromised patients. Department also prepares concentrates of granulocytes and lymphocytes for DLI (Donor Lymphocyte Infusion), which are used in the therapy of transplanted patients.

Apheresis Department performs collections of PBPC (Peripheral Blood Progenitor Cells) for allogeneic and autologous transplantation. PBPC cells are prepared after previous mobilizing therapy from healthy donors or from patients with hemato-oncological diseases. The Standard and Large volume leukopheresis technique is used for collections. Apheresis Department cooperates with The Czech Registry of Bone Marrow Donors in problematics of the safety of mobilized donors. The most often therapeutic procedures include Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), Depletion Leukocytapheresis, Platelepheresis, and Erythrocytopheresis. Extracorporeal Photochemotherapy (ECP) was introduced in the therapy of transplanted patients with GVHD and in the therapy of patients with cutaneous T- cell lymphoma. Apheresis Department performs Extracorporeal Immunoadsorption with the possibility of the significantreductionofIgGinthepatientcirculation. The method is efficientinthetherapyofpatientswith myasthenia gravis, in patients with hemofiliaA and B with inhibitors against f. VIII. and IX., and in pacients with refractory TTP.
